Astrid's most recent and ongoing series of paintings are of crumpled photographs. Constantly troubled by the validity of representational painting sourced by photography, she takes photographs of friends, crumples the image, re photographs them and paints from them. The paintings no longer conform to the shape the canvas offers her and vary in shape and size. Whilst continuing to portray the true personalities of the people she paints, she revels in painting the distortions caused by the manipulation of her imagery.
